I delivered a lightning talk titled “Beyond Laughter: How Internet Memes are Shaping Our Online Community” at the annual AIGA Design Conference. I explored how meme culture has evolved beyond entertainment into a significant form of digital communication and social interaction particularly among Gen Z audiences, while investigating how technology and social media companies incorporate “meme thinking” into user experience and interface design. Through comparative case studies of Chinese and U.S. platforms, I highlighted strategies for applying meme culture in mobile application design to strengthen communication efficiency, increase user participation, and shape contemporary online communities.
